Alphonse Mucha (Art Nouveau)

April 26, 2007

Alphonse Mucha (1860 – 1939). He’s a massive influence in my work. There’s a certain ‘comic book’ feel to his paintings (which attracted me in the first place), but his style goes much deeper than that. The strength of his ‘line’ is bold, amazing, and confident.

“Among graphic artists and commercial designers, Mucha is praised for the innovative style books that pioneered the use of Art Nouveau in the commercial packaging, design, and ornament.”
